It’s not often I have to wack out the
Google Maps in my home square mile but Camden Town Brewery’s drinking hole in
Kentish Town West was extremely elusive. After meeting a few dead ends, I heard
the brewery before I saw it. The sunny evening had turned up the volume on the
perfect soundtrack for a pub: chatting, laughing and music. I was meeting some
close friends on Thursday night but as I arrived alone, I got that nervous
excited feeling you get just before arriving at a party, not a local pub. I had
pictured a low-key unknown place where I could drink my favourite, local beer,
cheaper than the inflated pub prices. I was wrong, twice. For starters, the
beer matched the pub prices but that can be excused because they have created a
bar that feels like it’s on holiday. This vibe was greatly improved by the sunset and the fact it was warm enough to sip outside. The industrial warehouse has been simply transformed
with lots of strategically nailed planks of wood and had the feeling of a
really successful pop up pub. It served the standard Hells larger and Pale Ale along
with a Decadent at a pricy £8, which I’ll be back to try on payday. A DJ played
reggae and soul music while we were fed by a Byron burger van serving the best
burgers we can remember tasting and with a can of free beer! With lots of food
and beer events in the calendar, The Camden Town Brewery just keeps on giving!
