Spend a Sunday at... Caravan and Camden Canal

Sick of every weekend being spent recovering from Friday night drinks on an empty stomach followed by laundry, I am embarking on the challenge of filling every Sunday with something fun. Cue delicious food, city walks and hidden spots. I am determined to return to work, feeling like I have had a proper weekend, without breaking the bank.

I met a couple of friends at Caravan, King's Cross. Yes, I have written about this food joint before but they have opened another one. Last time was dinner in Exmouth market, this time was brunch in King’s X. I can't stay away.

Pear + Blackberry Daiquiri

It was the first weekend that felt truly wintery so I embraced the chill with a seasonal pear and blackberry daiquiri. Like its East London sister, Caravan knows how to brand itself. While I sipped my cocktail at the bar while we waited for our table, I marveled at the attention to detail. From the glass walls that look through to the new Saint Martin’s building to the beautiful logo stamped everywhere (including our queue number on a wee coffee bean bag).

Always on the hunt for the best brunch, Caravan is definitely up there. I ate poached eggs on St John’s Bakery sour dough toast with aubergine puree, yoghurt, sumac, and satsouki sausage (7.5). It was recommended by the waitress and she was right. The aubergine puree tasted like baba ganoush and spiced up the eggs. The beef sausage was perhaps a tad too salty but it went down well with coffee, (they have their own rotisserie dontcha know!).

Camden Canal

Feeling full, we walked off brunch with a wonder down the canal towards Camden. A swan, three geese and a cat later we ended up in The Edinboro Castle garden, keeping warm with perhaps a slightly premature mulled wine. A Perfect day with a capital P.
