Hampstead Creperie

Chocolate and banana or garlic mushrooms and cheese or perhaps I should try the apple compote and cream. This is the savoury/sweet dilemma that i find myself in whenever I go to the Hampstead Creperie. That decision became a bit too much for the Americans in front of me and they walked away with one for main and one for desert.

Time your visit well because the popularity of this outdoor stand, plastered with favourable reviews, means a winding queue of 30 people is to be expected. For some reason, preferably on a sunny day, the wait makes them taste even better and you can listen to the happy French chatter of the guys while they churn them out.

Make a day of it and have a pre or post walk over Hampstead Heath. It makes you feel better about the block of butter they use to get them perfectly crispy. This time I went for a belgian milk chocolate and banana one. Writing this is reminding me of the warm melted chocolate and it's taking a lot of restraint to not jump up, get my coat on and run out of the door to satisfy my craving.
