This weekend, I got a disposable camera developed that had fallen down the back of my chest of drawers. This film was full of a trip to Amsterdam with my two best mates in March 2013 so I thought I'd use them to illustrate some of the things we got up to.

Visit: De Gooyer Windmill
Our first trip on the bikes was to the largest, oldest windmill in Amsterdam. We rewarded our 20 minute cycle with a beer and a simple plate of meat and cheese from the brewery next door. Funenkade 5, 1018AM.

Do: Get Bikes
Bicycles are by far the best way to get around in Amsterdam, with wide cycles lanes everywhere. We picked ours up from Mike's Bikes, Kerkstraat 134. There are no signs on the bikes saying which rental company owns then, so you can ride around the city, pretending you're a local.

Drink: Cafe de Spuyt
Tell the knowledgable staff in this amber lit little pub just off the Just off the busy Leidseplein how you like your beer, and they will recommend 1 of over 100 beers that are chalked up on the blackboards. Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 86.

Tulips and Herring Sandwich
The flower market was much smaller and perhaps less impressive than we imagined, but apparently they weren't in season. But the walk along the canal was nice and worth it for the traditional Dutch experience of broodje haring: raw herring in a bread roll with diced onions and pickles from Frens Haringhandel.
