Paper Pom Poms

Today I was working on an event and I learnt how to make paper pom poms. They are great for party decorations or something more permanent for your home.

1. Cut 8 sheets of good quality tissue paper cut to 30 x 15 cm.

2. Line up the sheets and fold like a fan with a width of about 2cm.

3. Cut 2 slits in the middle, leaving a 1 cm gap in the middle and cut the ends into semi circles or triangles depending what shape you want your pom pom to be.

4. Cut a piece of string 15 cm and tie it around the middle, wedging the string through one of the slits and tie the knot on top of the other.

5. Fan the tissue out so it looks more like a circle.

6. Holding the string, which is the base of the pom pom, start by separating 2 layers of the tissue paper from the rest and fluff it up to form the centre of the pom pom.

7. Do the same, in the opposite direction with the bottom two layers.

8. Repeat with the next two layers so that the tissue paper starts to resemble a pom pom shape.

9. Finally, separate and tease the individual layers of sheets of tissue paper until you are happy with the shape. Try not to fold and crease the petals too much and make sure they are as spread out as possible.
