Nadine & Toby's DIY Wedding

Nadine and Toby

It's the kind of wedding you would expect to see on the glossy pages of a magazine, every minuscule detail considered and executed beautifully. But this creative couple, refused to fork out the fortunes so many others do on their big day and instead, they opted for a DIY wedding and hand made everything, from the food, to the cake toppers - with a fair bit of help from their friends and family.

I thought I'd share some of the crafty highlights that made this wedding so special.

Lavender was used instead of confetti and it made the whole room smell amazing...

They reception/after party was held in Dilston Grove, a beautiful building in South London that has been converted from a church into an art gallery. The tall long room was lined with 700 collected jars and candles. It was such a simple idea and looked incredibly magical.

700 jars with candles lines the room!
As everyone joined the drinks reception, they were "tattooed" with this nautical N + T stamp.

For the meal, we all sat down in banquet style...

And Tucked into Ottolenghi style food, prepared by Nadine's best ladies...

Ottolenghi inspired aubergine, buttermilk and pomegranate dish

We drank the "wedding brew", brewed by the bride and groom with the help of a friend for everyone to drink on the day.

For pudding, Sorbitium Ices parked up outside in their retro Citron Van to serve up their seasonal home made ice-cream flavours.

I had a scoop of ricotta, fig leaf and strega and hazelnut praline and stracciatella.

Perhaps my favourite touch, bucking the traditional, often tacky cake toppers, they made much more subtle and elegant initials "N + T" .

Everyone at the wedding was set a task. My boyfriend, Ollie and I made a cheese cake with 11kg of cheese brought by the groom's parents. For people who know me, I am a huge fan of cheese so this was pretty much a dream come true. Guests were also asked to make a condiment to go with cheese course. Everything from bacon chilli jam to banana and date chutney was brought along.

After the meal, we were entertained by the groom's brother's folk band.
