Foraging in Leigh-on-sea

When you have a day off and it is this hot, sweaty London is not the place to be. Instead, I headed to lovely Leigh-on-sea in essex to do some foraging.

Sea Beet
Foraging is becoming a much more popular way to source your food. It's sustainable and free and you often end up with a bunch of something a supermarket would never stock.

There is a lot more to be found than a classic cockle on this beautiful Essex coast line. We packed a picnic and went for a walk on the hunt for samphire and sea beet.

Samphire
It's delicious wilted with a piece of steamed white fish like cod.

Wild fennel salad

The best thing about foraging is you never know quite what you're going to find. We also picked some wild fennel, which will jazz up any salad.
